People with mental health concerns who died of unnatural causes in the custody of county and municipal jails, by Houston area county

Across the eight counties that make up the Houston metro area, 46 percent of the people who died of unnatural causes in the custody of county and municipal jails over the last decade had exhibited mental health concerns that were documented by officials.

*Unnatural deaths include homicide, suicide, accidents and COVID-19. Deaths where the cause has yet to be determined are not included in this count.
