Asian American and Pacific Islander women are overrepresented among the AAPI low-wage workforce

The bars show, out of all Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) workers, the share of women paid low wages and the share of women employed in the workforce. For example, among South Asian workers, women make up less than half (42.4%) of the workforce; however, women make up over half (54.3%) of all South Asian workers who are paid low wages.

Bar chart comparing the gender breakdown of low-wage workers and all workers, for each disaggregated group within the general Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) category: South Asian, Southeast Asian, East Asian, Pacific Islander, and Other Asian. All groups are also compared to the overall AAPI workforce. Across all groups, women make up a larger share of the low-wage workforce than of the general workforce.
