Safety reports of aircraft equipment problems

The data is based on confidential safety reports submitted voluntarily by frontline aviation workers to NASA's Aviation Safety Reporting System. Incidents of aircraft equipment anomalies on scheduled commercial airplanes, with the aircraft itself as the primary problem, peaked in 2022. But it's unclear whether that was driven by more workers reporting or the issue being more prevalent.

According to NASA, the reports are subject to self-reporting biases. In many cases, the safety incidents reported are have not been corroborated by other federal agencies.
