Many Children of Color in California Are Disproportionately Excluded from the Full Child Tax Credit

Percentage of Children Within Each Racial and Ethnic Group Left Out of the Full CTC Because Their Family Incomes Are Too Low

The chart displays the proportion of children in each racial and ethnic group that are left out of the full Child Tax Credit because their family incomes are too low. Black, Latinx, and American Indian/Alaskan Native children are excluded at the highest rate and displayed in various shades of orange. Multiracial, Asian, and white children had lower levels of exclusion and are all displayed in various shades of purple.
Note: Latinx includes children of any race. Asian, Black, multiracial or another race, and white do not include children who report Latinx ethnicity, while American Indian or Alaska Native does include children who also report Latinx ethnicity.
