NC cremation rates

While the number of NC residents being cremated after death has steadily been rising for decades, for the first time more residents were cremated than buried in 2020. Since 2000, of about 1.7 million deaths, one in three have been cremated. But that rate differs significantly between native residents, 40%, versus those born out of state, 68%.
