Among EU and EFTA countries with more than 1 million population

Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Malta with less than 1 million population, are excluded because a small change in deaths could results in a large per-capita change. Switzerland and Norway, shown in the chart, are not part of the EU-27. Preliminary 2023 data as of March 2024. Number of deaths are calculated using Eurostat 2023 population data.
