Whitehall departments collectively spent over £145million with taxpayer-funded debit cards in 2021

Government Procurement Cards (GPCs) were introduced by Tony Blair in 1997 to enable departments to make low-value purchases efficiently. In 2021, they were used to make £145,497,231 worth of purchases – 58 percent of which was by the Ministry of Justice alone.
