States with paid sick leave laws

National paid sick leave rules covering people affected by COVID-19 end at the end of 2020 unless Congress votes to renew them. Fourteen states and several U.S. cities will have their own sick leaves laws in effect as of Jan. 1, 2021.

Several cities have paid sick leave requirements, including, among others, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Antonio, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Paul and Washington, D.C.
