McHenry County school COVID-19 outbreaks

McHenry County had one active youth-related outbreaks as of Friday, April 1, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported. The number had been falling steadily since hitting 11 on Feb. 11. The county has seen 68 outbreaks across 35 schools and organizations since early September.

Since the 2021-22 school year began, the Illinois Department of Public Health has changed its definition of an outbreak. Outbreaks identified in September and early October included two or more cases with a potential shared exposure on school grounds and who are from different households. Since then, however, outbreaks now have to have at least three cases and have to be connected within 14 days by a shared school- or youth-related location.
