Relative Effect of 2019-nCoV Containment Policies on Top 12 Offenses
Reported crime for 8 of the top 12 reported incidents during the 25 weeks ending between March 22nd & September 6th decreased across the City of Chicago.
Updated: 9-14-2020. CPD incident data is not real time. It is available 7 days after an
incident occurs. We used the BSTS modeling approach set forth by Campedelli, Gian M., et al.
to gauge the impact of containment policies on overall reported crime.
Predicted incidents are the estimated daily counts absent containment
policy in Chicago. We compare this estimate with reported incidents to gauge the relative impact on reported crime.
