Twenty-five states have enacted laws or policies that limit or prohibit gender-affirming care for young people

State laws and policies that prevent or limit minors from accessing gender-affirming health interventions have increased significantly in recent years. Arkansas was the first state to enact such a law in 2021. By July 2024, half of the states in the nation had enacted these rules. These policies and laws face legal challenges, but most are still in force.
