A line chart shows the share of homes purchased by investors per metropolitan area. San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland's investor-bought shares of housing have all increased substantially since 2008, dipped around 2020, then began rising again in 2021 or 2022. San Francisco has the highest investor share, at 20.6% as of 2022, while San Jose and Oakland have 15.2% and 14.3%.
