Spring Is the Most Dangerous Season for Major U.S. Storms

This chart is based on NOAA’s U.S. Billion-Dollar Weather and Climate Disasters dataset covering events from 1980 to 2024. Each disaster is counted once and assigned to the month in which it began. Multi-day and multi-state events are attributed to their start month to avoid double counting.
