As laws are challenged in courts and new legislation is passed, the status of many states is subject to change. For example, Arizona's near total abortion ban was challenged and, while currently not in effect, it will be enforced starting in 2023. Many states that allow abortion up to a particular week of pregnancy enact other restrictions on the procedure, such as a required waiting period, counseling, or parental consent. States may also differ on whether they allow exceptions for rape, incest, or medical emergencies.
