Average delay (min) per train type and country

Night trains are the most delayed train type across Europe, compared to other types of long distance trains.

Chart of average train delay per country and per type of train. Night train delays are almost always higher than intercity and high speed trains, and highest in the Netherlands and Germany.
May 2024 - May 2025. Night trains include Nightjet, EuroNight, European Sleeper, Intercity Notte and Intercités de nuit. High speed trains include TGV, Eurostar, ICE and Frecciarossa. Intercity trains include Railjet, Intercity, Eurocity and various other train types. 'Other' aggregates delays for trains from/to the listed countries.
