This chart shows the type of health insurance coverage for Californians under 65 years old for 2023. 30% have Medi-Cal health coverage, 4.9% have private health insurance, 59% have employment-based health insurance, 1.4% have other public insurance, and 5% are uninsured. Private insurance includes coverage obtained through Covered California, the state’s health insurance marketplace established under the Affordable Care Act. Other public insurance includes Medicare, military coverage, and Veterans Affairs coverage. The majority of Californians ages 65 and older are covered by Medicare.
