The 16.2-mile Purple Line is roughly 80% complete

The project has faced criticism for going over budget and taking years longer than estimated — but could transform mobility in the region.

At transfer points between Metro lines and the Purple Line, riders will often have to make short walks between each system's platforms. Half of all Silver Line trains also terminate at New Carrollton, in addition to all eastbound Orange Line trains.
