2022 Sports Betting Revenue By State

Since the Supreme Court ended a near-nationwide prohibition on sports betting in 2018, 36 states and Washington, D.C., have authorized it. Six of these, shown in blue, do not have state-approved gambling but allow it at tribal casinos. Sports betting just launched this year in two states, and is legal but not yet operational in three others. Please note that the darker the orange is, the more the state is taking in.

The totals in each state are for January through December of 2022. The data is incomplete for Arizona, Illinois and Kansas. Arizona and Illinois have not as of Feb. 8, 2023, reported the December 2022 revenues, so the totals are for January through November. Sports betting in Kansas went live in September 2022, so totals are only for a four-month period. Washington, D.C., is not shown here as the Office of Lottery and Gaming does not break out the state's share of revenue in its reporting.
