Black babies flagged to law enforcement more often
Based on estimated birth rates, the percent of Black newborns flagged to law enforcement over claims of pregnancy substance use is greater than the percent of White newborns in each of the eight states analyzed.
The table shows data for eight states: Oklahoma, Minnesota, Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas and California. Percent bars indicate how often Black and White newborns have pregnancy substance use cases shared with law enforcement in each state. Another column estimates how much more likely Black newborns are than White newborns to have these cases shared with law enforcement.
