New tax fairness study finds poorest households hit hard in 2020

The Department of Revenue Services' latest tax incidence analysis found that the poorest 10% of Connecticut households effectively paid 40% of their earnings to state and municipal taxes in 2020, more than five times the rate that the highest-earning households paid.

Each decile's total adjusted gross income is about $19.3 billion. The lowest-earning taxpayers are in the 10% decile, and the highest-earning are in the 100% decile.
