Step by Step, the Fed Has Ratcheted Up Rates

The Federal Reserve has raised its benchmark interest rate to its highest since September 2007, the early days of the Great Recession, to combat inflation. Its Feb. 1 hike was its smallest since last March. (To see a specific data point, tap or hover over that area of the chart.)

The Fed switched to a target range from a target point for the fed funds rate in December 2008.
