The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention use a metric called proportional mortality ratio (PMR) to assess the impact of suicide and other causes of death within occupations. PMR is calculated by taking the number of suicide deaths within an occupation divided by the total people in that occupation who died. Below is a table of 382 occupations that had 20 or more suicides during a 7-year sampling period across 24 states.
