Between 2013 and 2023, the number of Black and African American faculty at Mizzou increased nearly 37%. Most of that growth occurred in the years immediately following the 2015 protests, with Black and African American faculty peaking at 85 in 2021 before declining and leveling off. Since then, UM System has removed diversity statements from its job applications, and Mizzou eliminated the vice chancellor for inclusion, diversity, and equity role. Peer institutions show steadier or more modest change over the decade, with the University of Georgia reporting consistently higher numbers and schools like Kansas and Iowa seeing gradual growth that later leveled off. The University of Arkansas remained lower overall, with only incremental year-to-year changes rather than sharp increases.
