Vacancy rates higher in southwest suburbs

A third of rental apartments built in the Twin Cities last year were in the southwest suburbs, causing the vacancy rate there to exceed even downtown Minneapolis. Across the metro, however, demand mostly kept up, causing the average vacancy rates to remain flat as rent costs increased about 4%.
