Notes: Analysis includes both “treat and release” ED visits as well as ED visits ultimately admitted to a higher level of care. Includes both Massachusetts residents and non-Massachusetts patients. Some observation stays at MGB hospitals were reported as ED visits prior to 2022 per CHIA findings. After HPC analysis of impact to the overall state boarding numbers, it was determined to keep MGB hospital discharge data in these analyses.
