The tight end saw greater utilization in NFL offenses beginning around the 1960s, but especially since the turn of the century. Tight ends comprised 19.6% of NFL receiving touchdowns between 1960 and 1999, 22.9% between 2000 and 2009, and 25.2% between 2010 and 2019.
