Tax revenues from wealth and inheritance tax (relative to government expenditure, in %)

Note: Analysis based on 2022-23 figures. Government expenditure includes centre and states. Under baseline variant, a tax of 2% on net wealth and 33% on estates is levied on those with a net wealth and estates exceeding Rs 10 crore, respectively. In moderate variant, in addition to the Rs 10 crore threshold, wealth tax would be increased to 4% and inheritance tax to 45% on wealth and estates exceeding Rs 100 crores. In ambitious variant, 3%-5% is imposed on wealth and 45%-55% on estates.
