Association between gender disparity in time spent on care work and proportion of women not in education, employment or training

Caregiving responsibilities not only hinder women from pursuing work opportunities but also confine them to domestic roles, leaving little time for activities beyond the household. Their struggle is not merely about finding employment—it is about finding the time to step outside the boundaries of their domestic duties. There is a strong positive association between the proportion of women in the Not in Employment, Education and Training (NEET) category and the proportion of time spent by women as compared to men. The state-wise trends reveal that Karnataka, Bihar, Assam, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir are the states where women spend close to thrice the time on care work as compared to men
