Personal bankruptcy filings are rising again
The number of Americans filing for personal bankruptcy in the prior 12 months has swung up and down since 2000. It peaked at about 1.6 million in 2005, eventually fell to around 368,000 in 2022, and then bounced back to nearly 582,000 by mid-2026.
