Figure 11. Professional situation, population aged 25-59, 4Q24 (%)
A stacked bar chart showing the employment status of the population aged between 25 and 59 in the fourth quarter of 2024. The overall distribution of European workers aged between 25 and 59 is the most similar to that of the native-born population, albeit with significant internal differences. People of Spanish descent are employed in the public sector (either as contract staff or civil servants) in the same proportion as the native-born population as a whole: one in five, or 20 per cent, work in this sector. Excluding these people of Spanish descent, all other European immigrants, particularly those from wealthy countries, are self-employed or business owners more frequently than the native-born population. Specifically, three in ten European immigrants from high-income countries are self-employed or business owners, compared with 1.3 per cent among the native-born population.
