Data reflects new units approved minus units demolished
Approvals have bounced between about 2,000 and 5,000 from 2011 to 2020, but dropped sharply from about 4,000 in 2020 to 2,000 in 2021. They rose again to around 3,000 in 2022 but have fallen to less than 2,000 in 2023.
