Scholarship students best public school peers in reading

Percentages of students showing proficiency in reading. Scholarship recipients recorded higher proficiency rates on the 2023 Illinois Assessment of Readiness and SAT reading exams in every grade except for 5th grade when compared to low-income students in Illinois public schools. The average proficiency for all public school students is highest in every grade except 11th, where scholarship students have the highest reading proficiency.

Note: The Illinois State Board of Education defines "low-income" differently than the Invest in Kids Tax-Credit Scholarship defines "low-income" for a student to receive a scholarship.
