North Tonawanda power plant emitted more CO2 in the first three months of 2024 than it ever had in an entire year

The New York Public Service Commission approved the transfer of Fortistar, a gas power plant, to Digihost, a cryptocurrency mining company, in September 2022. The state's new climate law, which aims to cut the state's greenhouse gas emissions 85% by 2050, went into effect in 2020. Fortistar has been operating with an expired air permit since November 2021 and its carbon dioxide emissions have recently skyrocketed as shown in the graph below.
