Deaths in New Jersey by month during the coronavirus pandemic

Deaths leaped 35% from March through November compared to previous years, translating to nearly 18,800 additional deaths regardless of cause. At the peak of the outbreak, April hit the state particularly hard, when deaths nearly tripled. That gap fell over the summer, but has began ticking up again as the number of COVID-19 infections surges in New Jersey.

Typical deaths are based on average deaths from 2015-2019.
