Minnesota public school pandemic learning loss

The average Minnesota public school student was one-third of a year ahead of grade level in reading and nearly a full year ahead in math in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic. Now, most students are behind in reading and merely at grade level in math. That’s according to a new analysis that combines state-level tests, such as the MCA, with the nationwide NAEP.

Negative numbers in white columns indicate students were behind grade level. In gray columns, negative numbers show how many years behind students are in 2022 compared to 2019.
