Criminalized by the War on Drugs 

Despite similar rates of consumption, Black people are still three times as likely as white people to be arrested for possession of marijuana. This chart reflects the expected breakdown of 100 arrests using current rates of arrest per demographic and assuming a normalized population. 

Arrest numbers were made comparable across the population of each demographic using that population's arrest rate per 100 people. For example, 1.2 in 100 white people were arrested for marijuana possession in 2020 while 3.8 in 100 Black people were arrested.
