Distribution of Energy Bill Changes for Customers Upgrading to a Heat Pump

Change in annual energy bills for Xcel Minnesota residential customers who use fossil fuels for space heating when they upgrade to a cold-climate heat pump, under the default rate and electrification-friendly rate. Each bar represents the number of customers with the corresponding change in bills. Click on the buttons below to see data for the different utilities:

Negative values represent bill savings when a customer upgrades from their current heating system to a cold-climate heat pump, modeled using the ResStock 2024.2 high efficiency cold-climate air-to-air heat pump with electric backup scenario. The customers included are those using natural gas, propane, or fuel oil for heating, and are eligible for a heat pump upgrade as defined by ResStock.
