VMSDEP enrollment at 4-year public Virginia colleges
The number of military spouses and children receiving tuition waivers has more than tripled at every four-year public college since the academic year 2019-20 expansion.
This chart shows enrollment growth from the 2009-10 school year to the 2023-24 school year for the Virginia Military Survivors and Dependent Education Program (VMSDEP), a program that grants tuition and fee waivers to surviving spouses and children of deceased military personnel. Eligibility was expanded in the 2019-20 school year, and since then, the number of people enrolled under VMSDEP has at least tripled at each of Virginia's public four-year colleges and universities.
