According to an analysis by The Markup of federal Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data from 2019, lenders are more likely to deny applicants of color compared to white ones with similar financial characteristics, with Black applicants faring the worst. Nationally, Black applicants were almost twice as likely to be denied than white applicants.
