Oscars Representation on Par With General Population – But Only For Some Demographics

Actors awarded a nomination in one of four major acting categories from 2016 onwards show a shift in demographics, with Black and Asian actors gaining a measure of representation exceeding or on par with the general U.S. population.

For the sake of this graphic, Native Americans, Hawaii Natives and Pacific Islanders are classified as Indigenous peoples. There is no breakout Census data for those with Middle Eastern and North African heritage – those with Arab heritage are classified as White under the U.S. Census.
