The Fairer Finance Trust in Banking Index (Autumn 2025)

"Based on everything you know about your [name of sector] provider, to what extent would you agree or disagree with the following statement - 'I trust [name of provider]'?". Respondents answer once for every type of banking product they have. The question has the following options: "strongly agree", "agree", "neither agree nor disagree", "disagree" and "strongly disagree". The trust index score is calculated using the following formula: ((% answering strongly agree x 2) + (% answering agree) + (% answering disagree x -1) + (% answering strongly disagree x -2))/ 2. We use this formula to subtract those who distrust a provider from those who trust them, to give additional weight to those answering strongly agree and strongly disagree, and to create a single score to compare sectors and track change over time

The figures for each Spring and Autumn period include responses for the last six waves of the survey. More recent responses are weighted more heavily. The total sample sizes for the Spring 2025 period (aggregating the respondents for the last six surveys) are: current accounts - 56,729; credit cards - 42,673; mortgages - 15,313; personal loans - 8,278; savings accounts - 42,201.
