Homicides Increased Across California

Many California counties, urban and rural, reported a steep increase in homicides from 2019 to 2020.

Notes: Homicides listed by county of occurrence. Counties in gray had 10 or fewer homicides in 2020. All data from California Department of Public Health except 2019 figures for these counties: Butte, Humboldt, Kings, Madera, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, Shasta and Sonoma. Figures for 2019 for those counties came from the California Department of Justice.
