Counties with the Highest Need for Maternal Mental Health Providers, 2025

Despite provider increases, only 16% of the childbearing population lives in counties with an adequate number of available MMH providers. The U.S. still needs over 9,581 maternal mental health providers and programs to close the provider/program shortage gap. The Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health has established a table of the top U.S. counties with the biggest need for available maternal mental health providers as of 2025. These counties are listed below.
