US LNG exports are high and rising

The United States surpassed Qatar in 2023 as the world's largest source of liquefied natural gas, or LNG. The majority of these shipments go to Europe and the United Kingdom, replacing pipeline imports from Russia. This surge was made possible by dramatic growth in domestic gas production and the construction of new LNG export terminals in the U.S.
