Manitoba's natural gas-fuelled electricity generation spiked in 2023

Thermal generation reached its highest peak since 2013 as drought conditions and steep import prices led Manitoba Hydro to fire up the natural gas power plant in October.

Data includes thermal generation from both Brandon and Selkirk plants. The thermal generation facility in Selkirk was decommissioned in 2021. The 2023 figure is provisional.
