Yearly food inflation compared to general inflation
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measure yearly inflation. It is calculated by measuring the cost of a fixed basket of goods and services every month. The CPI for food purchased from stores consisted of 204 items as of August 2025. The list of products is periodically updated.
Food inflation has generally surpassed general inflation over the last five years, whether across Canada, Quebec, or the Greater Montreal Area.
