States are ranked based on the federal subsidy money spent on childcare in fiscal year 2022 relative to the number of residents under age 5 in each state during the same year.

All data is for 2022. Subsidy data comes from the Center for Child Care. Median weekly childcare costs come from the National Database of Childcare Prices. Population data comes from the U.S. Census Bureau 1-Year American Community Survey.
