These Idaho counties face primary care shortages

Nearly all counties in Idaho are designated as geographic or population "health professional shortage areas," known as HPSAs. The scores range from 0 to 25 and are calculated using criteria including the ratio of primary care physicians to residents, poverty, infant health and travel time to the nearest source of care. The higher the HPSA score, the greater the shortage.

Note: HPSAs count physicians but not other primary care providers such as physician assistants and nurse practitioners. There are other types of shortage areas. This map shows only primary care geographic and population shortage areas. Ada County, in gray, is the only Idaho county without either designation.
