Majorities of Americans across income levels say they expect to have a job one and three months from now

The latest COVID Impact Survey finds a majority of Americans with a job expect they’ll still be earning a paycheck one month from now. But only 5 in 10 looking for work think they’ll find a job in the next 30 days.

Unemployed includes Americans who say they were not working in the past week because they were laid off temporarily, care-giving during the pandemic or were looking for work. The workforce includes Americans who say they were employed or unemployed in the past week; excludes retirees and those not looking for work. The survey of 2,238 adults was conducted May 4-10 using a sample drawn from NORC’s probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population. The margin of sampling error for all respondents is plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
