Deaths in New Jersey by month

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, deaths in New Jersey leaped 42% from March through September compared to previous years. April hit the state particularly hard, when deaths nearly tripled. That gap fell over the summer, but ticked up slightly last month as the number of COVID-19 infections surged in the state.

Typical deaths are based on average deaths from 2015-2019.
